There are 76 provinces in Thailand and the capital is Bangkok.Thailand lies in the South East Asian part of the globe. This place is always teeming with tourists from all over the world and Thailand is a dream destination for them. It is the land of the Buddha. Therefore almost all the Buddha devotees visit this country at least once in their lifetime. Thailand, a land of peace and tranquility has some of the most exquisite Buddhist temples.

Thailand attracts visitors because of its attractive combination of picturesque natural grandeur, high spire temples, warm hospitality and famous cuisine.

The majority of Thais are Buddhist and they are generally well known for their friendliness and hospitality.Drinking directly from the tap is not encouraged.You are adviced to drink from bottled water.

The Temple of the Emerald Buddha

The elevated statue of the Lord Buddha at the Temple of Emerald Buddha is worth seeing. The statue is 65 cm in height and it is made of jade, quartz or jasper. The murals that are found in the campus and on the walls date back to eighteenth century. You may have a look at the Coin Pavilion and the Royal Thai Decorations. The ambience of the temple has a calm, fragrant and mesmerizing presence.

The National Museum

The National Museum has a lot of things exhibited like old to contemporary Thai Art, weapons, ceramics, Buddha Images, weapons, musical instruments. This is one of the largest museums in South East Asia.

Vinmanmek Teak Mansion

Visitors, who pay a visit to Bangkok, would never lose the chance to visit Vinmanmek Teak Mansion which is a teak building, the largest in the world. Dusuit Zoo and The Royal Elephant Museum are the places for fun and learning.

Wat Pho temple

The Wat Pho temple in Bangkok, which is near the temple of Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) , is the largest and the oldest Buddha temples. This is noted for the reclining statue of Buddha that is forty six meters long and it has the largest number of Buddha collections in the country. The massage therapy is refreshing and is done at this place.

The Chatuchak Market

The Weekend Market or the Chatuchak Market which is open on Sundays only, the Pak Khlong Market and the markets in Chinatown and district of Phahurat are especially famous.



The Thonburi region

The Thonburi region is situated on the western bank of the Thonburi River. This region is of special attention to visitors. There is the Taksin Monument with Thailand’s King Taksin’s statue and that’s a delight to look at. There is the museum, The Royal Barges, that has a good collection of boats and one is the king’s barge which is the Golden Swan.

Buddhist Stupas

Ayutthaya, the city that lies to the north of Bangkok and the Buddha Stupas are the centre of attractions. Wat Phra Si Sanphet is the largest centre here and the other temple is Wat No Phra Meru which has a Buddha Statue made of green stones. The two significant national museums are Chantharakasen and The Lopburi. Kanchanburi and Lopburi are places that bring in multitudes of tourists in a year. This place is located in Central Thailand.

Ko Chang National Park

The various activities like snorkeling, diving, elephant riding, and so on are the points of attraction in the Ko Chang National Park.

Lampang Luang Temple

The Northern Thailand also has a good number of temples out of which the Lampang Luaang Temple is considered the most beautiful of all temples in Thailand. Thai Elephant Conservation Center is an area for tourist exhibits and also provides care to sick elephants. Ramkhamhaeng National Park which is present in the Sukhothai Province is also an important tourist spot.

How to get there

Going to Thailand can be a bit too expensive but you can avail of the bargain basement flights. Generally, the flights are overbooked so you must reconfirm before starting off. You can get around in buses which are comfortable and air conditioned. There are buses meant only for women. Some agencies have bad reports tagged on to them. There are train services if you want to go to Malaysia.

Travelling around

The traffic on the road gets pretty bad during rush hour in Bangkok.The vehicles will come to a stand still and it will take hours just to get to a location which is only 30 minutes away.However,Thailand has an efficient train/underground system called BTS Skytrain. Thailand also boasts of tuk-tuks,an open air,three wheeled vehicle.It's an alternative to taxis/cabs. It should be cheaper than taking a cab,so please settle the fare with the tuk-tuks driver before hopping in.You can also rent motorcycles if you know how to ride a bike. The rental is cheap. You can rent anything between sport bikes of 1300 cc to moped 125 cc.
